A Cannon Hill property called for cannon balls as the theme throughout. The client liked this design but wanted everything in aluminum. It was for a Cannon Hill property and cannon balls were the theme throughout. Knuckles were custom cast to look like 2 cannon balls with a plate between. The hardest challenge from a design perspective was the slope on each side of the gate, to have them look symmetrical yet site appropriate. The biggest challenge was forging all the interweaving overlapping scrollwork in ¾” solid aluminum. It had its own rules of movement when forging compared to iron.
The Custom Hinge Posts were created with custom base and shoulders, and millwork detail was added utilizing inverted caprail. It was extremely laborious to create, but along with a custom machined neck for the ball cap, and stacks of cannon balls at the base for authenticity, the client was thrilled. Another challenge was with the installation – the gas main was exactly where the client wanted the main hinge post. We installed accordingly.
